From discovery to operation

Make progress through clear decisions.

These stages describe the questions to address as a project develops. They can overlap or repeat as requirements, evidence and priorities change.

  1. Understand the need

Clarify the business outcome, intended users and the work the solution should support. Review the existing environment, constraints and stakeholders, then agree the initial scope and success criteria.

CheckpointA shared understanding of the problem and what a useful result looks like.

  2. Assess and design

Examine the available data, systems and dependencies. Compare delivery options and define the architecture, integration boundaries and operating requirements. Identify assumptions that need further investigation.

CheckpointAn agreed approach, with dependencies and open questions made visible.

  3. Validate the uncertain parts

Use a prototype or pilot where it can answer a meaningful question before larger commitments are made. For AI, test representative tasks, answer quality and failure cases. For software, investigate the integrations or technical constraints that could affect delivery.

CheckpointEvidence to proceed, adjust the approach or reconsider the scope.

  4. Build and review

Develop the solution in agreed increments, with demonstrations and feedback from the people who will use or operate it. Test business rules, interfaces and relevant failure scenarios as the implementation takes shape.

CheckpointReviewed progress against the scope and acceptance criteria.

  5. Prepare for everyday use

Validate the complete solution in its intended environment. Plan deployment, acceptance, documentation and knowledge transfer, including the responsibilities for operation and the response if a release needs to be reversed.

CheckpointAn agreed release and handover, with outstanding items understood.

  6. Support and evolve

Provide the agreed application or operational support, investigate issues and plan improvements as needs change. For AI solutions, include evaluation as knowledge sources, models or user behaviour evolve.

CheckpointClear ongoing responsibilities, priorities and support commitments.

Working together

Bring the right people into the decisions.

Business context

Your team brings the priorities, domain knowledge and examples of real work. We help turn that context into requirements and decisions the delivery team can act on.

Technical access

Identify the people responsible for systems, data and operations. Agree the access, documentation and environments needed for assessment, development and validation.

Feedback and ownership

Agree who reviews progress, resolves questions and accepts the result. Set a communication rhythm that fits the project, with decisions and changes recorded clearly.

Clear agreements

Keep scope, change and support visible.

New information can change a project’s priorities or technical approach. We discuss the effect on scope, effort and timing before agreeing how to proceed, and keep unresolved dependencies visible to the people responsible for them.

Delivery and support arrangements are defined for the engagement. This includes documentation, handover, ownership and licensing arrangements, support coverage, availability and response commitments. The level of ongoing involvement is tailored to the customer.

Start with the need you want to address.

Tell us what you want to achieve, what is already in place and which constraints matter. We can help define an appropriate first engagement and the people and information needed to begin.
